Hook a girl up in the A-T-L

Good friend JM and I were talking last night along similar lines to what I’ve posted here recently on personal activism. She’s a Northern transplant to Georgia, and has had a hard time finding feminist groups (even in a social sense) to run and work with. Now of course I considered just emailing Amber and asking for tips, but as I’ve also been talking about learning and sharing information, I think I’d rather open it up for general input. I want to keep this open to social activities because, in my experience, that’s often the most comfortable way to transition into not just activism, but the conversations that necessarily come beforehand. [If you are in a group/book club/progressive drinking squad that you'd rather not post publicly, but would still like to let my friend in on, email me at ppoussin AT gmail DOT com.]

If there’s a good response to this, I’d love to make it an ongoing resource listings project — or, if this project already exists and should be hyped, post that too!

  1. First recommendation? Hands down – Georgians for Choice. I blogged about my involvement with them a few days ago. They are some super-awesome women.

And, in general, I know lotsa people here. Give her my email!

  2. Oh and as for *specifically* social events?

    Drinking Liberally, of course!

And, we at the wonderful, wondrous Georgia Podcast Network have monthly podcast parties in our lovely podcast studio (aka, my apartment).

Also I can take her to a pole dancing workshop.

And the Young Democrats of Atlanta go boozing a lot. Hell, just tell her to show up at Manuel’s Tavern any night of the week, and she’ll find a slew of progressive political types.
